Throughout England and Wales, with a few records from Scotland and Ireland (Murlough House, Tollymore Park, Kerry; Athdown, Wicklow).
Overseas it occurs in Austria, the former Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Russia.
No status is available, but probably not threatened.
Found in a wide range of habitats including bog, coastal vegetated shingle, lowland dry acid grassland, fen, lowland heathland, coastal sand dunes, sandy woodland and disused sand quarry. Can usually be found by sweeping grass.
Mainly found during July, also June and August, rarely September.
