Yearly membership within the UK is £20.

For members outside the United Kingdom, the EU membership rate is 30 euros.

All memberships become renewable on the 1st of January each year and run from 1st Jan to 31st Dec.

New members joining from 1st October will have their membership extended to cover the following year in full.

BWARS Newsletter

Published twice yearly in Spring & Autumn. The newsletter contains member’s notes, articles of interest, species profiles, pilot maps, noteworthy records of aculeates, species status reviews and many other items.

Members’ Directory

Logging into your BWARS membership via (https://membermojo.co.uk/bwars/signin) 

will give have access to the BWARS Member Directory which allows members to contact other aculeate workers in the area where they live, who may be interested in joint activities - field trips, informal meetings, recording target areas which have been poorly recorded.

Membership Handbook

A 136-page handbook received by all members on joining.

Contents include:

• Characteristics and life histories of aculeates
• Collecting and preserving aculeate Hymenoptera
• Identification of aculeates (advice on equipment, resources and a genus key)
• Recording
• Conservation
• Encouraging bees and wasps in the garden
• Photographing aculeates in the field
• Museum collections
• Details of entomological suppliers, where to source publications, and analysis of pollen from wild bees

Members’ Weekend 

BWARS annual get together offers opportunity to meet with other hymenopterists and aculeate workers in a friendly and informal setting. A variety of ID workshops are run and national experts are on hand to offer ID advice and support. Along with the BWARS AGM a programme of presentations and talks related to all things aculeate takes place on the Sunday. 

The Saturday evening get together and meal is a highlight of the weekend. Attendance is free for BWARS Members.

Field Trips

BWARS runs occasional field trips and visits to UK aculeate hotspots. BWARS seeks members to get involved and support running these events.

Access to the BWARS network of experts

BWARS is keen to support all members and can assist with putting members in touch with national experts for advice on aculeate ID, aculeate recording, national aculeate data and more.
