BWARS Members’ Weekend 16–17th September 2023
Newcastle Upon Tyne
Programme:
Sat 16th
12:00 Doors open for general gathering & lunch. Please bring your food as there is no café on site; tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day.
13:30 – 16:45 Workshops. Booking required! Two workshops will each run twice, so that members will be able to attend both if they wish!
1) Paola Rosa & Mike Edwards – Chrysididae. Recent investigations into the British Chrysididae have uncovered several new species, quite apart from the very awkward Chrysis ignita group. This workshop will help you identify your own material, at least to Genus and hopefully beyond. Comparative material and appropriate key(s) will be available, but, above all, BRING ANY SPECIMENS YOU HAVE, named or unnamed. They should be on a pin and, ideally, with the jaws open and genitalia/hidden metasomal segments drawn out. The Chrysis ignita group will not be covered in this workshop, but anything else is fair game.
2) Andrew Jarman – Myrmica. Identifying the ant genus Myrmica and distinguishing its species.
13:30 – 16:45 Rowan Edwards will be available to give ‘Insights into your data’ and answer your data questions.
13:30 – 16:45 Id Surgery - help session to identify members' own specimens, for those not attending both workshops.
17:00 Meeting close.
Members are invited to join us for an evening meal, venue to be arranged; please book.
