Introduction to Bumblebees and Solitary Bees

Submitted by Stuart Roberts on

A residential FSC course at Preston Montford Field Centre with tutor Ian Cheeseborough

Open to everyone

Solitary Bees are the focus of this weekend identification course. Emphasis will be placed on field identification but there will be ample opportunity to study and identify prepared specimens using entomological keys and microscopes. Time will be spent in the field over the weekend to enable bees to be caught and identified before release. Presentations will be given to explain ecology and conservation as well as a general introduction to the other insects that make up this sub-order of Hymenoptera. At the end of the course everyone should be able to confidently identify some of the more common species of solitary bees and have a knowledge of their requirements.
